 Presentation of FHW's publication

On 20 October 1999 at the Foundation's Cultural Centre "Hellenic Cosmos" the book by Mr. Fokion Sidiropoulos, doctor and student of Constantinople, entitled "The National Charity Establishments of Constantinople (Baloukli Hospital)", was presented.

The event commenced with the Foundation's President Mr. Lazaros Efraimoglou, who welcomed the attendants and presented the speakers, pointing out at the same time that the promotion of the work of Hellenism is the "duty" of anyone working in the Foundation. Then, Mr. Akilas Millas, doctor and writer whose archive was the source of the old photographs and drawings that adorn the book, took the stand to be followed by the writer of the book Mr. Fokion Sidiropoulos. The two speakers focused on the content of the book, where "what was happening in sosial medicine of Hellenism in Constantinople from the time of the Byzantine hostels-hospitals up to our days is narrated" and through these years we can discern the "intense presence, but also the trials, of the Greek element of Constantinople". They particularly mentioned the present condition of the Baloukli hospital, which in the beginning of the 20th century experienced its "golden age" but also turmoils dictated by the historical conditions, that still continues to contribute not only to the remaining Greek element, but to everyone seeking its assistance. Finally, Mr. Dimitris Efraimoglou, in an attempt to familiarise the public with the multi-dimensional work of the Foundation, presented its activities. The presentation was accompanied with slide projection from 3D reconstructions of buildings from ancient Miletus.

In the event there were present representatives from the fields of journalism and medicine, who met the book with favourable remarks.
