The Foundation of the Hellenic World and the Web Science Research Initiative (WSRI) organized, in the framework of the 4th International Conference "Cultural Convergence and Digital Technology", the First International Web Science Research Conference 2009: "Society On-Line". The Conference focused on the scientific study of the social and technological dimensions of the Internet, while at the same time it signaled the creation of a new scientific field. For the first time, top scientists, on international level, like Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the WWW, and professor Joseph Sifakis, the first Greek to receive the Turing Award in 2007, exchanged views and discussed the present and the future of the Internet. The Conference was organized from the 18th to the 20th of March 2009 at the "THEATRON" of Hellenic Cosmos.
